Grasping and tackling the multifaceted challenges of aging has become increasingly crucial. In the past quarter-century, the UK has seen its 65+ population grow by over 1.5 million, while worldwide, the 60+ demographic is expanding faster than any younger group. Our globally recognized Centre for Innovative Ageing (CIA) stands as Wales' premier gerontology research hub and ranks among the UK's largest, offering an exceptional foundation for postgraduate studies. The CIA also houses the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research (CADR), an interdisciplinary institute tackling globally significant questions about aging and cognitive decline. Our research outputs were ranked 3rd nationally in the 2014-2021 Research Excellence Framework. Our PhD program participates in the ESRC Doctoral Training Centre for Wales, a nationwide initiative cultivating elite social scientists. Our research spans diverse areas including how physical environments affect older populations, and care systems encompassing social services, healthcare, senior living, end-of-life care, chronic illnesses, and fall prevention. Current student projects examine subjects like lifestyle's influence on cognitive aging, dementia-friendly spaces, accessible communities for mobility-impaired seniors, and older adults transitioning from driving. Within our College of Human and Health Sciences, you'll thrive in a vibrant, collaborative research community with abundant interdisciplinary networking opportunities and connections to UK and international organizations and policymakers. You'll be joining an institution honored as University of the Year and Postgraduate runner-up in the 2019 WhatUni Student Choice Awards.
