A Master of Arts by Research in Welsh allows you to pursue an in-depth project based on your personal interests in Welsh studies.
This program provides a prestigious MA qualification in specialized fields not covered by taught courses, while offering the experience of a major research project without requiring PhD-level commitment.
You'll produce a thesis of maximum 40,000 words, showcasing original research that makes an important contribution to the field. This is followed by an oral defense (viva voce examination). Graduating from this program can lead to academic careers or enhance job prospects in education, government, or private industry.
Swansea's Welsh research strengths encompass: Bilingualism and language policy, Literary theory
Translation methods and technology, Historical literature, Devolution studies, Adult Welsh language learning
Legal and social history, Minority language law, Performing arts, film, animation, and digital media
Throughout your studies, you'll receive dedicated guidance from two expert supervisors. This includes biweekly meetings in your first term, followed by regular scheduled sessions.
As a research student, you must participate in skills development workshops. You'll present your work to peers and faculty during departmental seminars, the annual June postgraduate symposium, and the Postgraduate Conference.
