A Master of Arts by Research in Literary Translation allows you to pursue an extensive research project driven by your personal interests. This prestigious degree can open doors to academic careers or expand job opportunities in education, government, and private industries. The program spans one year for full-time students or two years part-time, ideal for those seeking their first research degree after coursework or considering doctoral studies. You'll produce a 40,000-word thesis showcasing original research that advances the field, followed by an oral defense (viva voce). Before applying, we advise consulting with potential supervisors to develop your initial proposal. Swansea University serves as a prominent center for literary translation research, specializing in French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Welsh. Our ongoing work on visualizing translation variations makes us especially receptive to related proposals. You'll receive dedicated guidance from two expert supervisors throughout your studies, with biweekly meetings initially and scheduled sessions thereafter. As a researcher, you'll participate in training workshops and present your work at departmental seminars, the annual postgraduate symposium, and the College of Arts and Humanities conference.
