The MA by Research in English Literature allows you to pursue an extensive independent research project meeting publication standards. This program spans one year for full-time students or two years for part-time participants. Ideal for those seeking their first research degree after coursework or contemplating advanced PhD studies, it requires submitting a 40,000-word thesis showcasing original contributions to the field. The process concludes with an oral defense (viva voce). Research communities like MEMO (Medieval and Early Modern Research), GENCAS (Gender in Culture and Society), and CREW (English Literature and Language of Wales) provide academic networking. Two expert supervisors guide you through fortnightly initial meetings, followed by scheduled sessions. Research students must participate in skills training and present at departmental seminars, the annual June symposium, and the College of Arts and Humanities conference.
