Pursuing a BSc in Psychology with a Foundation Year provides comprehensive scientific education exploring the connections between mind, brain, and behavior. This four-year program begins with a foundation year that establishes core concepts essential for advancing to the full Psychology degree. After completing the Foundation Year, students move directly into Year 1 of the BSc program. The initial year (level 3) is taught by The College, Swansea University (TCSU), while subsequent years (levels 4-6) are delivered by the College of Human and Health Sciences. The curriculum examines psychological and neuroscientific foundations of cognition, memory, language, and reasoning, investigates brain injury impacts, and develops strategies for enhancing health behaviors. Students cultivate strong research, writing, and analytical capabilities alongside advanced numeracy and IT skills. Our diverse teaching methods - including lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, and hands-on research sessions - foster teamwork and exceptional verbal communication abilities.
This BPS-accredited degree serves as the foundation for professional psychology careers, with graduates frequently progressing to specialized postgraduate study or roles. Entry-level NHS clinical psychology trainees typically earn £25,783, with potential earnings rising to £47,088-£81,000+ as careers advance (private sector salaries vary). Beyond psychology, this program prepares students for diverse opportunities in healthcare, social services, management, research, and marketing sectors.
