If you're fascinated by Genetics and want to enter this dynamic, rapidly evolving field that's transforming multiple scientific disciplines but lack the necessary qualifications for our BSc program or are returning to education as a mature student, our BSc with Foundation Year is the perfect choice.
The initial year of this four-year program will provide essential foundational concepts, preparing you to advance to the BSc in Medical Genetics. Students who successfully complete the Foundation Year with a minimum 60% overall average will progress to Year 1 of the degree.
Our Genetics program offers comprehensive understanding of life's fundamental components. You'll master techniques for studying gene expression, protein interactions, DNA structure and damage, biomolecular imaging, and advanced computational analysis.
A Medical Genetics degree opens doors to diverse career paths including: Medical research, Pharmaceutical development, Postgraduate studies (MSc, MRes, PhD), Genetic counseling, Clinical science, Medical school preparation, Physician assistant roles, Education, Science communication, Bioinformatics

GCSE: English and Maths minimum Grade C Wales (England Pre-2017) or Grade 4 (England Post-2017)*
We accept Swansea University approved equivalent qualifications.
Students wishing to take the Pathway to Medicine option the GCSE requirement is mandatory
For applicants whose first language is not English we require a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) and no less than 5.5 in each component. TOEFL (IBT) - 79
