Our combined Politics and International Relations program is tailored for students passionate about both national governance (covering political theory, electoral systems, and legislative bodies) and global affairs (focusing on international relations theories, security issues, and conflicts). This program enables students to gain proficiency in both domains while examining interdisciplinary subjects like environmental policy, global economics, and international development. The curriculum provides foundational knowledge in both fields during the first year, followed by opportunities for specialization and deeper exploration of national-international intersections in subsequent years. The final year emphasizes independent study, giving students the freedom to concentrate on their preferred subjects. Additionally, final-year students can participate in a Welsh Parliament internship and a British Parliamentary Studies module, partially instructed by UK Parliament specialists. With a strong focus on career readiness, 91% of graduates secure employment or pursue further education within six months (DLHE 2015). Participants typically refine their verbal and written communication abilities while mastering various presentation techniques, alongside honing research, analytical, and problem-solving competencies.
Graduates of Politics and International Relations pursue diverse career paths, such as: political analysis & strategy, policy research, electoral administration, public sector governance, municipal management, corporate oversight, political messaging, risk assessment, advocacy, diplomacy, international civil service, security operations, and humanitarian work. Prospective employers—including recent graduate destinations—include: political groups, UK government departments (e.g., Foreign Office, Treasury, Defense), devolved governments (particularly the Welsh Parliament), local authorities, military and police services, PR agencies, educational institutions, policy research organizations, NGOs, intergovernmental bodies (e.g., World Bank, UN), media outlets (e.g., BBC), digital platforms, consulting firms, and security/risk analysis companies.
