This Joint Honours program in Politics and International Relations caters to students passionate about both national political systems (covering political theory, governance structures, electoral processes) and global political dynamics (including international relations theories, security issues, and conflict resolution). The curriculum enables students to gain comprehensive knowledge in both fields while examining interdisciplinary subjects like environmental policy, global economics, and international development. The first year establishes foundational knowledge in both disciplines, followed by opportunities for specialization and deeper exploration of domestic-international intersections in subsequent years. The final year emphasizes independent study, offering flexibility to concentrate on preferred subjects. Unique opportunities include a Welsh Parliament internship and a British Parliamentary Studies module co-taught by Westminster experts. With 91% graduate employment or further study rates (DLHE 2015), the program emphasizes career readiness, developing exceptional communication, research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities through diverse assessment formats.

Graduates pursue diverse career paths such as: policy analysis, political research, government administration, corporate governance, diplomatic services, security sector roles, and international aid work. Employment opportunities span political organizations, UK government departments (Foreign Office, Treasury), devolved governments, local authorities, security services, media outlets, think tanks, NGOs, international institutions (UN, World Bank), and private sector consultancies. Recent graduates have secured positions with political parties, Welsh Parliament, BBC, major charities, and global risk assessment firms.
