You'll learn to align your media creations with established practices while discovering your unique storytelling approach and personal style. The program also highlights the importance of creative industries in the UK economy, helping you find your place in this dynamic yet competitive field.Recognizing students come from varied backgrounds, the course carefully transitions learners into university life. The initial six weeks focus on a single unit called 'Belonging,' designed to foster community and ease your adjustment. The first semester establishes core skills, while the second offers greater flexibility, letting you customize your learning and assessments based on your interests, future degree path, and career aspirations.Comprehensive academic support is available in person, supplemented by round-the-clock access to the University's online learning platform.You'll gain immediate access to the University's media equipment store, where you can borrow gear for coursework and personal projects at no cost.The program includes technical training, particularly for DSLR cameras and video equipment, along with audio recording devices and complimentary use of relevant facilities and microphones.Throughout the year, you'll receive practical training with industry-standard software, focusing on video, photography, and graphic design post-production tools. By year's end, you'll develop proficiency in photography, video production, and graphic design, giving you an advantage in any creative undergraduate program.Intended audienceThe Media Foundation Year prepares you with fundamental media skills before beginning a full media-related bachelor's degree at Solent. Ideal applicants may not yet meet first-year entry requirements or may be returning to education after a break.
You need 48 UCAS tariff points. You need A-levels, a BTEC Extended Diploma at PPP or BTEC Diploma at MP, a T-Level Pass (D or E), or equivalent. We will consider mature students who have not recently undertaken a formal course of study at A-level, or equivalent, but can demonstrate relevant work or voluntary experience, that's indicative of their ability to complete the course successfully. As a general guide, we look for qualifications that are equivalent to the British high school A-levels. Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component, or equivalent.
