For those enthusiastic about computing careers but not yet prepared for a full honors degree, or entering the field without formal training, a one-year computing foundation program offers the perfect introduction. This pathway equips you with fundamental programming, web design, networking, and security skills before progressing to the three-year BSc (Hons) Software Engineering degree.
Throughout the foundation year, you'll master programming basics through engaging, hands-on projects. These activities are supervised by instructors with diverse expertise and industry experience.
Personal growth is prioritized - you'll receive guidance to boost your academic confidence and begin transitioning to independent learning. We emphasize teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation, skills that employers consistently value.
After completing the foundation year, you'll advance to the first year of the BSc program. Initial coursework covers coding, software testing, networking, security, algorithms, and databases. You'll also strengthen academic writing and research abilities to support your ongoing education. These fundamentals prepare you for more specialized second-year subjects like artificial intelligence and mobile app development.
Your final year features a capstone project demonstrating your software engineering capabilities. Optional modules allow deeper exploration of trending fields such as data science and immersive technologies.
All computing undergraduates can opt for a placement year between their second and third years, gaining practical industry experience.
Our faculty will mentor you in professional development, helping create online portfolios to highlight your skills. You'll also have opportunities to network at tech events, acquiring real-world insights.
Strong industry connections provide access to valuable contacts, work experience, and sector knowledge. The final-year project unit includes industrial consultation, thoroughly preparing you for the workplace.
Graduates can pursue diverse digital careers, with growing industry demand for skilled software developers.
This program belongs to the South Coast Institute of Technology (IoT), a collaboration between educational institutions and tech employers. IoT courses specifically address workforce needs in maritime, engineering, and digital sectors - industries actively seeking new talent like yours.
