Gain hands-on experience to create and helm the next major primetime television success through our ScreenSkills-approved degree program. Our alumni have secured roles on shows like Strictly, The Repair Shop, Sky News, and beyond.
Solent's media foundation year provides an engaging introduction, helping students build technical, creative, and academic abilities across diverse media formats. After completing the foundation year, you can advance to the three-year BA (Hons) Television Production program.

In an ever-evolving landscape, television production thrives across platforms, from live broadcasts to streaming services. The sector has demonstrated adaptability, ingenuity, and artistic vision. Contributing £3 billion annually to the economy—with over 40% growth since 2008 (PACT, 2019)—there's strong demand for skilled, professionally trained television creatives.

Our ScreenSkills-endorsed program consistently produces highly employable graduates. Taught by passionate industry experts, the course fosters your development as a creative professional through mentorship and practical learning.

Focusing on hands-on experience, you'll create, film, and edit original content, working across genres like drama, documentaries, sports, music, entertainment, and reality TV. Our students have a proven record of crafting award-winning, broadcast-ready projects. In November 2023, final-year student Sophie Humphrey earned Student of the Year at the Rise Awards—marking Solent's second consecutive win.

Develop your abilities through real-world projects in the curriculum, with potential work placements on primetime TV for major music festivals and high-profile events. Thanks to our industry connections, students have recently interned at the BBC, Royal Television Society, Camp Bestival, Boardmasters, Society of American Cinema Editors, Southampton FC, the NHS, and others. We're also the official university media partner for Glastonbury Festival.

Beyond interactive lectures and seminars, you'll attend workshops and masterclasses led by acclaimed TV and film professionals. Recent guest speakers have worked on Top Gear, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Bohemian Rhapsody, and more. Students also get exclusive access to media organizations for behind-the-scenes insights, networking with professionals and deepening industry knowledge.
