Tailored to meet sports industry demands, the sport foundation year covers diverse topics including leadership, fitness fundamentals, sports business operations, modern sports perspectives, and community service. Successful completion qualifies students to progress to the BA (Hons) Physical Education degree.
This specialized physical education program prepares you for a teaching career, offering real-world experience in various school settings. You'll learn contemporary child development approaches and current educational challenges. With work placements throughout all three years, you'll graduate ready to begin teacher training through PGCE or School Direct programs.
Developed with input from postgraduate teacher training experts, the curriculum positions you strongly for future training applications. Key study areas encompass physical education instruction, pedagogical techniques, youth development, motor skill acquisition, educational psychology, and research methodologies. You can also focus your studies to align with your preferred teaching age groups.
Through our leadership of the Southampton School Sports Partnership, we enhance sports education quality across the region. This initiative provides students with access to 72 primary schools, 15 secondary schools, and six colleges in Southampton, enabling practical application of theoretical knowledge. These field experiences constitute a vital component of your academic evaluation.
