Exceptional networking, state-of-the-art facilities, and the chance to collaborate with photography, TV, film, and SFX students establish Solent's program as a premier option: your passport to global career opportunities.
This program immerses you in the diverse applications of make-up and hair design across creative fields. You'll adopt an innovative mindset toward techniques, materials, and creative processes to develop groundbreaking contemporary designs. This encompasses fashion editorial styling, theatrical wig craftsmanship, television work, and unconventional design settings (including publications, exhibitions, and runway shows). To ensure versatility across media, you'll receive training in photography, film production, and digital content creation.

We champion diversity and inclusivity in design while examining beauty standards, gender dynamics, and evolving concepts of identity. The curriculum fosters progressive working methods alongside traditional and modern make-up and hair techniques for fashion, beauty, theater, television, and cinema.

Your learning will take place in cutting-edge facilities including specialized make-up, hair, and SFX studios, photography spaces, computer labs, and an extensive Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Instruction comes from respected industry professionals and researchers, complemented by guest lecturers, industry talks, and international study opportunities.

Through the department's industry connections, you'll tackle real-world projects with partners like Illamasqua and Leni's Models, while gaining insights from leading professionals. Past speakers have featured top creatives from MAC Cosmetics, Illamasqua, Kryolan, and notable art/design studios collaborating with technology sectors.

The program encourages interdisciplinary projects to help you understand your professional role, delivering an enriching educational experience that readies you for career success.

Final-year students may apply to participate in London Fashion Week's professional make-up team, national theater productions, or Graduate Fashion Week in London.
