Students pursuing a PhD in International Development can choose to study at SOAS, LSHTM, or IoE. Those enrolled in this pathway will participate in LIDC's advanced research training seminars, which offer interdisciplinary development perspectives and specialized knowledge in chosen fields. MPhil/PhD candidates must complete mandatory coursework and attend departmental seminars at their registered institution. At SOAS, students engage with seminar series in Economics and Development Studies while contributing to relevant research clusters. As a doctoral researcher, you'll become part of our internationally recognized academic community, benefiting from research and teaching prospects, along with seminar programs featuring prominent development experts.

Qualification Requirements
We normally require a 2.1 bachelor's degree plus a Masters degree with a Merit classification in a Social Science plus one reference. In exceptional cases we may accept applicants who do not meet these criteria if they show evidence of a strong Masters degree and/or appropriate level of relevant work experience.
The School's minimum entry requirement for applying for the PhD and VRS programmes is a good UK Master's degree (or overseas equivalent), which is generally in a relevant area to the programme you are applying to. In some cases prior knowledge of a language may be necessary or advisable.
Full academic transcripts of your College/University studies to date (with official translations from the institution or provided by a recognised translator if not in English)
An academic transcript is a record of your study undertaken detailing the courses or modules you studied each year, the mark you received for these and the credit value and level of each module.
Copies of official transcripts for all qualifications awarded at a degree level or higher must be uploaded to your online application. These transcripts must detail all marks received throughout the duration of your studies.
