The MSc Political Thought leverages SOAS's extensive regional knowledge to present an innovative perspective on political theory, emphasizing its deep connections to global power dynamics and struggles for liberation.
This program explores political theory as it manifests in everyday political discourse, philosophical writings, and cultural expressions. Moving beyond traditional comparative frameworks, it uniquely trains students to trace how ideas circulate globally, enabling analysis of both political thought and action across diverse historical and geographical contexts, with special attention to SOAS's core regions: Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
The curriculum familiarizes students with fundamental methodologies, discussions, and inquiries within the emerging field of Comparative Political Thought. Simultaneously, it offers comprehensive grounding in classical political theory, re-examined through critical lenses of imperialism, colonialism, gender inequality, and racialized economic systems.
The MSc Political Thought engages with diverse thinkers, traditions, and texts, equipping students to analyze and contrast concepts across regions and eras while situating these ideas within broader global frameworks.
