The MPhil/PhD in Translation Studies offers a research-focused curriculum that provides both fundamental and specialized training in translation theory, research methodologies, and thesis development. With a strong emphasis on research, the Department delivers a comprehensive program through coursework, specialized seminars, and personalized supervision to cultivate disciplined scholars with robust research capabilities. Students can receive guidance across diverse areas including theoretical, descriptive, and historical translation studies, as well as interdisciplinary research spanning linguistics, cultural studies, sociology, and political science. For certain research projects, collaborative supervision with experts from other departments may be available.

Qualification Requirements

We normally require a 2.1 bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) plus a Masters degree in appropriate subject area plus one reference. In exceptional cases we may accept applicants who do not meet these criteria if they show evidence of a strong Masters degree and/or appropriate level of relevant work experience.
