This qualification matches one academic year of the BA in Languages and Cultures (South Asia Pathway), catering to students interested in South Asian studies who prefer a shorter commitment than a full three-year degree.
The Certificate offers adaptable course structures, usually mirroring the first year of the BA Languages & Cultures (South Asia Pathway). Students typically study a language, foundational modules, and/or additional South Asia-focused units from various departments. All study plans require approval from either the Programme Convenor or Department Head.

Qualification Requirements
The minimum entry requirement is the ability to demonstrate the potential to study at undergraduate level. However, programmes may have their own specific requirements, such as, in the case of language-based studies, a proven ability to learn a language.
All applicants must be able to show that their English is of a high enough standard to successfully engage with and complete their course at SOAS.
If you have not yet taken an English language test, you can still apply for your degree, but we will include evidence of language requirements as part of your offer conditions. In all cases we consider the most recent test evidence.

TOEFL iBT ('My Best Scores' not accepted)- 95 23 in writing, 20 in other subscores
