Many of our students cite their passion for Physics as being driven by a desire to explore the Higgs boson, dark matter, nanotechnology, or simply an insatiable curiosity about the fundamental workings of the universe. Whatever your motivation, our Physics department strives to both educate and inspire you in this most foundational of scientific disciplines.
During our four-year Astrophysics MSci program, you'll master groundbreaking concepts and frameworks, building the profound theoretical foundation needed for sophisticated comprehension of natural phenomena. You'll acquire essential Physics principles spanning classical mechanics, quantum theory, along with advanced mathematical and experimental techniques.
While solid-state physics forms the core of our Physics MSci, this program focuses more intensely on astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology. Advanced years feature specialized subjects like Stellar Astrophysics and Atomic & Nuclear Physics. As you advance, you'll encounter Particle Astrophysics, Planetary Geology and Geophysics, General Relativity & Cosmology, and Optics - progressively delving into research-level material with greater depth than a BSc program offers. Your final year presents an exceptional selection of specialized courses, including offerings from University College London, King's College London, and Queen Mary, University of London.
