The field of international relations analyzes interactions between nations, exploring the functions of states, governmental and non-governmental bodies, academic disciplines, policy frameworks, economic systems, global legal structures, and cultural examinations.
Royal Holloway's MSc in International Relations enables students to critically analyze influential factors across different global regions. The curriculum challenges students to investigate pressing worldwide concerns including financial instability, European Union divisions, large-scale population movements, and fundamental human rights. The program's foundation presents essential concepts and methodologies for analyzing global political dynamics, which students then apply to examine the social, economic, and political engagements of major international players.
Students complete a combination of required courses and selected electives, with substantial flexibility in optional modules, culminating in a supervised summer dissertation. Available electives may change annually but typically cover subjects like American foreign policy, South Asian political systems, European Union security strategies, media's role in conflict, and global legal frameworks. Instruction primarily occurs through weekly two-hour small seminar groups, complemented by individual dissertation supervision.
Program Length: 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time
