Modern elections have become increasingly volatile and surprising. Campaigns in recent years have consistently defied expectations, leaving analysts and political leaders astonished. Events like the 2015 UK General Election, the Brexit referendum, and Donald Trump's presidential victory demonstrate how unpredictable outcomes have become. This program explores the mechanics of contemporary electoral campaigns, examining different strategies—what works, what doesn't, and why. It investigates the rise of political outsiders, how established parties can adapt, the reasons behind electoral unpredictability, and improved methods for gauging public sentiment and voting patterns.

Through collaboration with leading electoral scholars and experienced polling professionals, you'll gain both academic knowledge and hands-on insights into modern campaign challenges. Perfect for those pursuing careers in political strategy, policy research, or consulting—or for anyone interested in government or scholarly work.

Our Politics and International Relations department prioritizes innovative, research-driven teaching. As a globally diverse academic community, we employ multiple theoretical and methodological approaches to study politics at local, regional, and global levels. Our expertise spans security studies, diplomatic relations, policy analysis, EU dynamics, electoral behavior, civic engagement, digital media's political influence, nationalism, and migration studies.
