Concerns about sustainable development, environmental justice, and geopolitical security have reached unprecedented levels, as evidenced by growing investments in global challenges research. The MRes in Geopolitics, Development, Security and Justice is perfectly designed for students aiming to pursue PhD studies in these fields. This program blends fundamental theories with comprehensive research methodology training, culminating in an extended dissertation that serves as excellent groundwork for advanced postgraduate research, including doctoral programs. Mirroring our collaborative and externally engaged research ethos, the curriculum offers opportunities for unique placements and research collaborations with external organizations.
Within the Department of Geography, you'll become part of a dynamic research community (ranked 5th in the UK for research excellence in REF2021) and enhance our distinguished research environment through your independent dissertation work. You'll specifically collaborate with leading academics from our Geopolitics, Development, Security and Justice (GDSJ) research group, which includes over 20 active researchers and 35 doctoral candidates. Additionally, you'll gain from GDSJ's connections with experts in Politics and International Relations, Information Security (including the EPSRC Doctoral Training Centre in Cyber Security for the Everyday), and the GeoHumanities.
