The Master's program in Cultural Geography at Royal Holloway, established in 1995, was among the world's first specialized postgraduate courses in this emerging field. A quarter-century later, Cultural Geography has grown into one of geography's most vibrant sub-disciplines. Our curriculum captures this energy by examining the connections between physical environments, human identity, and movement.
The MRes in Cultural Geography particularly benefits students aiming for doctoral research. Approximately 50% of our graduates since 1995 have secured funding for PhD studies, with many becoming prominent scholars. This program blends fundamental theories with rigorous research methodology training, culminating in an extended dissertation that provides excellent preparation for advanced academic work. True to our collaborative ethos, the course offers opportunities for placements and research partnerships with London's premier cultural and creative institutions.
