By exploring both Creative Writing and Drama together, you'll develop a richer appreciation of how theatrical performance and literary creation intersect - whether you focus on playwriting or opt for poetry or fiction within the creative writing component.

Selecting Drama at Royal Holloway positions you within one of the world's most prominent and respected Drama and Theatre departments. You'll engage in performance creation, textual analysis, and apply diverse critical perspectives to both disciplines. This program bridges the gap between textual study and physical expression, thought and action. Theory and practice are seamlessly integrated: theoretical knowledge enhances your practical work, while hands-on experience illuminates theoretical concepts. Through this dynamic interplay, you'll develop as a well-rounded theatre practitioner. By examining various performance approaches, both individually and collaboratively, you'll gain comprehensive industry insights and discover how your unique talents contribute to the broader theatrical landscape.

Our department excels in both teaching and research, fostering a vibrant creative community. Our faculty expertise spans numerous theatre and performance disciplines, with particular strengths in modern British theatre, global performance traditions, theatre history, movement-based performance, and contemporary experimental practices.
