Leveraging the combined knowledge of our Classics and History faculty, the Ancient and Medieval History program enables students to examine Greek and Roman civilizations during the Classical era (600 BCE - 700 CE) and their evolution into the Medieval period (c. 600 CE - 1400 CE). This interdisciplinary course bridges two pivotal epochs of pre-modern history, allowing students to analyze and contrast ancient social and political structures while mastering the analytical frameworks essential for historical study.
Guided by globally renowned scholars, this program immerses you in the political dynamics, pivotal events, and cultural developments that shaped ancient societies and continue influencing modern civilization. You'll investigate central themes, critical junctures, and enduring questions in Greek and Roman history, including the birth (and collapse) of democratic systems and the cyclical patterns of imperial rise and decline.
As an Ancient History student, you'll join our vibrant Classics Department, where cutting-edge research informs our teaching and personalized mentorship fosters academic excellence. Our active Classics Society enhances the welcoming, collegial environment that defines our department.
