Language study forms a core foundation for research throughout the School of Arts, English and
Languages, where diverse linguistic methods are applied to English, French, Irish, and other languages.
You'll join a vibrant doctoral research community, learning alongside peers from varied cultural backgrounds. Our supervision supports research across major linguistics fields, including: sociolinguistics, dialect evolution, language policies (in education, community languages, and minority tongues), toponymy, digital communication analysis, storytelling techniques, literary studies, rhetorical analysis, discourse examination, translation studies, and advancing language understanding through phonetic, phonological, lexical, morphological-syntactic, and pragmatic approaches.
