The research conducted in Archaeology and Palaeoecology primarily aligns with two interdisciplinary Research Clusters: Environmental Change and Resilience (ECR) for environmentally-focused studies, and Culture and Society (C&S) for archaeology projects with a humanities emphasis. When joining Archaeology & Palaeoecology, you'll engage with a vibrant research community within these clusters.
Studies incorporating Palaeoecology or Scientific Archaeology examine topics like ecosystem transformations, human-environment interactions, and climate adaptation over extended periods. These investigations employ techniques including pollen analysis, tephrochronology, tree-ring dating, and radiocarbon methods. Our work frequently crosses disciplinary boundaries, such as in peatland hydrology and restoration initiatives. The C&S cluster investigates cultural artifacts across different eras and regions, merging cutting-edge scientific approaches with theoretical frameworks to reconstruct historical human experiences, thereby bridging scientific and humanistic perspectives.
