The course's main objective is to cultivate a deep technical comprehension of materials science and engineering, equipping you for professional roles in either industrial materials sectors or academic research. Through technical lectures reinforced with data analysis and problem-solving sessions, you'll strengthen essential investigative skills highly valued in professional settings. The program also enhances project management abilities via coursework, research initiatives, and relevant industry placements. MSc students enrolled in the Professional Internship track will dedicate up to 36 weeks during their second year to a materials-focused position. Students bear the responsibility of securing their own Industrial Internships, which must receive University approval meeting established Health, Safety, and Welfare standards.

Normally a 2.2 Honours degree in a relevant physical sciences or engineering discipline, or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University.

The University's Recognition of Prior Learning Policy provides guidance on the assessment of experiential learning (RPEL).
