Civil Engineering was among the inaugural degree programs at Queen's, establishing it as one of the UK and Ireland's most historic offerings. Faculty members conduct cutting-edge research and are celebrated for their exceptional teaching. This expansive field addresses society's fundamental infrastructure, encompassing everything from bridges to water systems, energy networks, and roadways. Our academic programs focus on the planning, design, construction, sustainability, management, and upkeep of these critical systems, covering specialties like structural engineering, transportation systems, geotechnical engineering, and hydraulic engineering.
Following a shared foundational year, students can customize their education through three specialized tracks: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering with Architecture, or Environmental and Civil Engineering, aligning with their individual strengths and interests.
Regardless of specialization, students will confront pressing global issues, including promoting sustainable development in our rapidly urbanizing world. With growing pressures on vital resources such as water, energy, and land, there's an urgent demand for skilled Civil Engineers who combine technical expertise with environmental consciousness regarding project impacts.
An optional Academic Literacy Module is available to enhance English proficiency and study skills, particularly emphasizing discipline-specific academic competencies.
