Students pursuing International Relations and Spanish gain valuable perspectives by merging political analysis (covering areas like political theory, governance systems, and global affairs) with literary and linguistic approaches to better understand political and historical events, including current world developments.
Through this dual focus, learners can examine diverse facets of Spanish-speaking nations worldwide, including their literature, politics, society, culture, and language. Beginners without prior Spanish qualifications can start from scratch. The program includes essential Spanish language courses that build proficiency in writing, speaking, and translation between Spanish and English. Alongside language studies, students explore the rich literary traditions, historical contexts, cultural expressions, and linguistic features of Spanish-speaking regions. Our curriculum provides comprehensive exposure to both Spain and Latin America, spanning historical periods from the Golden Age and colonial eras to modern-day Spain and contemporary Latin America. Language instruction emphasizes practical communication skills, using authentic materials to examine present-day Spanish/Hispanic societal and cultural topics. This four-year program includes a mandatory study abroad component.
