The Joint Honours Programme in Anthropology and International Relations offers students a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary perspective on modern cultures, global politics, societal structures, and conflict scenarios, exploring their political, historical, social, cultural, economic, and legal aspects. At Queen's, International Relations extends beyond warfare and rebellion, encompassing phenomena like globalization, the growing influence of emerging economies (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), European unification, humanitarian concerns (including poverty alleviation, sustainable development, and refugee crises), and media's role in conflicts. Anthropology explores global human diversity, teaching students about various societal structures and cultural perspectives on subjects like kinship, gender, spirituality, creative expression, and economic systems while developing skills crucial for our interconnected, technology-driven world.
