The School's extensive research capabilities provide diverse opportunities for individuals pursuing doctoral studies in human or physical geography. Doctoral candidates receive dedicated guidance from our academic faculty members. We accept applications for both full-time and part-time study options. As part of our affiliations, the School participates in the London Social Science ESRC Doctoral Training Centre (a joint initiative with QMULGoldsmiths), the London NERC Doctoral Training Partnership, and the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Programme focusing on 'Science for Management of Rivers and their Tidal Systems', along with regularly securing AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Awards. Potential PhD candidates should explore the broad spectrum of research disciplines within our School of Geography. Our key research areas encompass: migration research development geography global health studies (in partnership with Blizard Institute) bioscience and health security labor and global production systems (collaboration with Business and Management) domestic space studies (joint work with Geffrye Museum of the Home) urban geography studies urban cultural dynamics historical geography research knowledge geography and practice environmental sciences (with expertise in freshwater biogeochemistry, river processes, aquatic ecosystem restoration, and geological archives)
A first-class honours degree in Mathematics or Statistics or the equivalent qualification from an overseas institution. If your qualifications are not from a UK university, QMUL also considers recognised equivalent qualifications from accredited overseas institutions and equivalent professional qualification. Ideally you should have a more advanced qualification such as MSci, MMath or MSc, in which case we expect at least an upper second in your undergraduate degree with a merit in your postgraduate degree. IELTS (Academic) minimum score 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each of Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking. TOEFL minimum score 92 overall with 21 in Writing, 19 in Reading, 18 in Listening and 21 in Speaking.
