The School of History offers a dynamic, inclusive, and intellectually engaging setting for doctoral-level historical research. Our distinguished faculty provides exceptional supervision and support, with their own research excellence directly informing their teaching and motivating our large postgraduate community. We foster a collaborative environment through our diverse research community, which embraces varied interests and methodologies. As a student here, you'll participate in our vibrant research forums, including the student-led Postgraduate Seminar Series. Our specialized centers host prestigious events: the Centre for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies and Centre for Eighteenth-Century Studies feature international speakers, while the Mile End Institute (MEI) focuses on contemporary British history. The interdisciplinary Centre for the History of the Emotions organizes seminars, workshops, and offers Studentships. Through the Raphael Samuel History Center, a collaborative initiative with other London universities, students engage in public discourse. Many faculty lead seminars at the Institute for Historical Research, a key resource for London-based postgraduates. Our postdoctoral researchers provide valuable mentorship for those advancing their academic careers. Qualification Requirements

A first-class honours degree in Mathematics or Statistics or the equivalent qualification from an overseas institution. If your qualifications are not from a UK university, QMUL also considers recognised equivalent qualifications from accredited overseas institutions and equivalent professional qualification. Ideally you should have a more advanced qualification such as MSci, MMath or MSc, in which case we expect at least an upper second in your undergraduate degree with a merit in your postgraduate degree. IELTS (Academic) minimum score 7.0 overall with 6.0 in each of Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking. TOEFL minimum score 100 overall with 21 in Writing, 19 in Reading, 18 in Listening and 21 in Speaking.
