Program Overview This curriculum enhances your comprehension of socio-cultural dimensions in mental health, psychological disorders, and treatment systems. It prepares you for research or clinical roles in multicultural environments within the UK or internationally, while also providing foundations for advanced training as a therapist, social worker, or clinical psychologist. The program investigates how belief systems, values, ethnic backgrounds, customs, and traditions influence mental health vulnerabilities and protective factors. You'll analyze how migration, racial identity, and other cultural aspects combine to create mental health issues, and explore clinical and systemic approaches through innovative treatments and adapted psychological methods. You'll arrange and complete a supervised placement with mental health services supporting diverse communities (such as NHS facilities, nonprofit organizations, or global mental health agencies). Clinical placements offer supervised experience addressing emotional and psychological difficulties across cultural contexts. Policy-focused placements allow observation of cultural influences on mental health service design and implementation. Additionally, you'll enhance research capabilities and complete an independent study project. Students completing 60 credits earn a PgCert in Applied Mental Health. Students need to have a 2:2 or above at undergraduate level in Psychology, Medicine or a related discipline. IELTS (Academic) minimum score 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each of Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking. TOEFL minimum score 92 overall with 21 in Writing, 19 in Reading, 18 in Listening and 21 in Speaking.
