This research-focused program is designed for students with a BSc or MSc in finance or related disciplines. The curriculum places significant emphasis on advanced mathematics, statistics, and econometrics, with instruction and thesis guidance provided by actively researching faculty members. Within SEF, the MRes serves as the primary pathway to our PhD program: The majority of graduates progress to doctoral studies (conditional upon meeting requirements), though it can also be completed as an independent degree. Exceptional applicants may qualify for substantial financial support. QMUL students benefit from top-tier research training and opportunities to apply for studentships through the ESRC London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership. The program operates from Queen Mary's Mile End campus within the School of Economics and Finance (SEF). School of Economics and Finance Ranked 8th nationally and 4th for Research Outputs in REF 2021 Over 50 faculty members engaged in diverse research areas Faculty regularly publish in premier economics and finance journals, including American Economic Review, Econometrica, and Journal of Finance during the REF 2021 period. Staff maintain active partnerships with institutions such as the UK Treasury, Bank of England, and World Bank.
Degree requirements – You need a First Class Honours or above at undergraduate level in Economics, Finance or a related subject. Subjects such as Mathematics, Physics and Engineering may also be considered. Other routes - We will also consider applications from MSc graduates in Economics and related disciplines, although it is not a requirement that applicants have completed an MSc. Applicants already enrolled on a comparable advanced postgraduate degree at other institutions will be able to request to be considered through the Queen Mary Accreditation of Prior Learning Policy (following the standard University procedure) to enter part-way through the MRes programme.  IELTS (Academic) minimum score 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each of Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking.
