This music education program equips graduates with the essential knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to teach Music in secondary schools. The curriculum combines university-based learning with classroom placements, ensuring trainees graduate as confident, classroom-ready professionals. Students can pursue the qualification at two levels - both recognized teaching credentials, with the postgraduate option enabling accelerated access to Master's programs: Professional Graduate Certificate in Education or Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Participants select their preferred qualification during the course, with successful completion leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recommendation.
The program focuses on deepening subject knowledge within the National Curriculum framework, exploring teaching methodologies for diverse learners, and cultivating professional values aligned with music education. This encompasses child development across cognitive, social, and physical domains, along with the competencies needed to effectively manage learning environments.
All participants complete a module examining broader educational contexts, preparing them for their initial teaching roles while establishing a base for ongoing professional growth. The module features both large-group lectures and interactive seminars, often trainee-led with tutor guidance. This approach helps meet Teachers' Standards by linking educational theory with classroom practice.
