Completing this course successfully qualifies you for Bar admission and progression to pupillage. Our nine-month LLM BTC program allows you to earn a Masters degree (LLM) upon successfully finishing both the BTC and an extra module called Advanced Advocacy, Advice and ADR. This specialized module exposes you to contemporary practice challenges like handling vulnerable witnesses and expert testimony. The internationally recognized LLM qualification qualifies for UK postgraduate government loans. Our program includes innovative, practice-oriented components designed to enhance your legal career prospects.
Following a brief orientation, you'll dive into core subjects through seven authentic case files (four criminal and three civil), following each from initiation to trial. You'll develop knowledge and skills by working through these case studies as you process legal instructions.
For the LLM, you'll complete an additional third-term module covering advanced topics like vulnerable witness handling and expert evidence, while gaining hands-on mediation experience and enhanced trial advocacy practice. You'll also write a dissertation on a covered topic or, if you've completed legal work experience, submit a reflective analysis. Practical experience options include pro bono work through NLS Legal, positions with Citizens Advice Bureau, or placements in professional legal environments.
Our team provides career guidance including mock interviews. Throughout the year, we offer tailored presentations addressing students' evolving needs during the application process, covering both Bar practice (the primary goal for most students) and alternative legal careers.
Students can seek career advice from any BTC tutor. All instructors are practicing or former legal professionals, including some with current London or local Chambers affiliations, ensuring students receive expert, practical career guidance.
