The MArch program prepares you with essential skills for a successful career in architecture. Northumbria's architecture courses share a unified philosophy and methodology, with design practice serving as the foundation. Through design, we explore, conceptualize, and implement transformations in the physical environment. The Master of Architecture (MArch) features two interconnected components: Design (both practical and research-based) and Theory (research and critical application). Design modules make up 50% of the first year and 75% of the second year (the design thesis).
This MArch program meets ARB/RIBA Part II accreditation standards, helping you cultivate advanced design and research capabilities for independent architectural projects and career growth. Most MArch graduates join leading architectural firms worldwide. The program develops versatile skills like self-directed learning, analytical thinking, social awareness, and both traditional and digital presentation techniques. These competencies allow our alumni to pursue diverse paths including construction, BIM, visualization, real estate, urban planning, stage design, project management, and housing development, as well as academic research at the doctoral level.
