Our Sport and Exercise Science degree takes a hands-on approach, applying cutting-edge sports science principles to real-world scenarios. You'll study key disciplines including psychology, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, strength training, and performance analysis to help athletes gain a competitive advantage. This sports science program offers a 3-year full-time option, or a 4-year pathway that includes a work placement, study abroad opportunity, or our Year in International Business program in your second year - allowing you to apply your learning in practical settings.
The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, providing you with the expertise, technical abilities, and self-assurance to pursue careers like Exercise Physiologist, Personal Trainer, Sports Coach, or Sports Development Officer. Many graduates further their education in fields like physiotherapy or postgraduate studies, joining the ranks of Northumbria's accomplished alumni such as Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton, Commonwealth swimming star Chris Cook, and rugby international Jamie Noon. You can also expand your qualifications through supplementary courses like disability sports coaching, youth sports instruction, emergency first aid, or ISAK body composition certification to boost your career prospects and professional preparedness.
