Our Interior Architecture program is a design-focused, studio-based course affiliated with Interior Educators, the national learned society for the discipline. You'll gain practical expertise and specialized knowledge from our renowned faculty to become an interior architecture professional. Through live and guided design projects, you'll craft innovative, thoughtful design solutions for existing structures by first analyzing the site before implementing your creative vision. The curriculum covers design principles, communication techniques, historical and theoretical studies, construction technology, environmental considerations, and project management. Field trips to active project sites and a European study tour will broaden your perspective. After your second year, you may opt for a study abroad year or continue with the standard program - both options enhance your expertise and global awareness. You'll build a diverse portfolio showcasing both assigned and independent projects, enabling you to delve into your specific interests within interior architecture and adaptive reuse while demonstrating your design capabilities. Your final projects will be exhibited in Newcastle and at Interior Educators' London showcase to connect with industry professionals. Graduates can advance to our unique 60-credit PG Cert in Interior Architecture, which meets ARB Part I requirements when combined with undergraduate study at Northumbria - the only program offering this pathway for adaptive reuse specialists. Northumbria ranks 29th for Architecture in the UK (Guardian University League Tables 2020), with 89.5% of students praising the program's organization (National Student Survey 2018). With 95% employment or further study rates within six months of graduation (Unistats 2014) and industry showcase opportunities, this program launches successful careers in interior architecture. Alumni secure positions in top architecture firms and diverse creative fields including exhibition design, retail spaces, design media, property development, heritage conservation, and visualization.
