This program offers fundamental training in research methods and evidence-based practice. Students can explore their specific interests within either a research or Evidence Based Practice (EBP) framework. Designed for graduates in speech-language pathology, clinical linguistics, psychology, and related fields with a focus on communication and swallowing disorders, this course is part of the 1+3 (Master's plus PhD) pathway. It falls under the ESRC Northern Ireland/North East (NINE) Doctoral Training Partnership and holds recognition as a Research Master's qualification from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). This makes it excellent preparation for PhD studies through the ESRC-funded 1+3 program's linguistics track or for those with NIHR Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) support. The curriculum includes: discipline-specific research methodologies tailored to your thesis project and future scholarly work, advanced study in specialized areas, current research trends, and executing original investigations. This encompasses statistical and qualitative analysis, data interpretation, and enhancing communication skills to present clinical findings professionally. Presentation opportunities include conference talks and preparing manuscripts for scientific journals. Our faculty consists of internationally recognized experts who will guide your research development in specialized clinical domains.
