This program is designed for individuals holding a Bachelor's degree in life sciences or related fields, as well as intercalating and qualified MBBS/BDS students. You'll craft a personalized curriculum by selecting from our extensive array of taught modules, followed by a six-month research project. Our instruction is grounded in current research, with course content evolving to incorporate: advancements in the field, standards set by regulatory bodies and collaborators, and student input. As medical genetics is a highly competitive research domain, your studies will primarily focus on academic pursuits, though some students may gain industry exposure.
This Master of Research serves as a springboard for scientific careers in both academic and industrial settings, while also providing strong preparation for doctoral studies. Alumni from Newcastle's Faculty of Medical Sciences MRes program have pursued diverse career paths, including: research positions (associate, scientist, technician), management roles (project manager, development manager), clinical positions (research associate, medical doctor), analytical roles (senior analyst), consulting (associate consultant), scientific communication (medical writer), and specialized roles (Marie Curie researcher, patient safety executive, sales representative).
