Our Archaeology master's program encourages you to explore human history through diverse thematic and analytical approaches.
Newcastle offers an exceptional environment for archaeological studies. Surrounded by globally significant prehistoric, Roman, medieval, and post-medieval sites, you'll engage in frequent field trips and regional fieldwork. The renowned Great North Museum: Hancock on campus provides access to outstanding archaeological collections that enhance your learning experience.
The program offers six specialized tracks plus a general option, allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals. Alongside the general Archaeology path, you can specialize in: Prehistoric Archaeology
Classical Archaeology (Greek and Roman), Roman Frontier Studies, Late Antique, Medieval and Byzantine Archaeology
Historical Archaeology, or Archaeology of Artefacts and Technologies
You'll become part of Newcastle's dynamic archaeology network, learning from leading scholars in their respective research fields.
The program provides numerous opportunities to engage with cutting-edge research. We host visiting scholars from national and international institutions, enabling connections with researchers worldwide. Through our Postgraduate Forum, you'll join an active community of Archaeology, Classics, and History students, with access to seminar series, annual conferences, and an e-journal.
