Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death and illness across the globe. In the UK alone, approximately 363,000 new cancer diagnoses occur annually, equating to over 990 cases daily (Cancer Research UK, 2019). Investigating tumor development processes and creating innovative treatments have become crucial priorities, not just because of the devastating human impact but also due to the significant financial strain on healthcare systems. This MSc by Research program equips students with essential skills and knowledge for pursuing careers in cancer research, standing out as one of the limited oncology-focused research master's programs in the UK.
Throughout this program, students will explore the scientific foundations of cancer and its treatments while acquiring practical laboratory techniques to assess novel therapeutic approaches. Participants will have opportunities to attend specialized workshops, tutorials, and seminars designed to support their research development.
Our faculty consists of globally renowned cancer researchers with diverse expertise spanning multiple specialties, including immuno-oncology, epigenetics, genomics, drug resistance, cancer spread, and stem cell biology. Their work covers various cancer types such as bone cancer, ovarian cancer, blood cancers, cervical cancer, and bowel cancer. Students can choose from an extensive selection of cancer biology research projects and collaborate with leading specialists in their chosen area.
