This program reimagines textile applications, practices, and industries for the modern era. It adapts to a changing global environment that demands sustainable, design-focused, and innovative approaches to shape the future of textiles.
With Manchester and the School of Art leading textile innovation since the 1800s, this course builds on that legacy, empowering students to both challenge conventions and drive progress.
Students will cultivate interdisciplinary hubs of expertise to reinvent textiles across its broad spectrum (including Textile Craft, Innovation, and Digital disciplines). The curriculum engages with emerging challenges like environmental shifts, novel materials, and Industry 4.0 textile advancements. Cutting-edge facilities like the Manchester Met Digital Lab enable exploration of digital fabrication, electronics, 3D printing, and mixed-media material experimentation.
Participants will create distinctive specialized projects that stand out in contemporary design. The learning experience blends creativity, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration through design workshops, expert talks, industry partnerships, discussion groups, and field studies.
