Discover why our well-intentioned New Year's health goals often lose momentum. Learn about the brain and body's response to stress and how psychological insights might bolster your immune defenses. Gain tools to evaluate neurocognitive performance.

The field of health psychology is expanding quickly, offering valuable solutions to major public health concerns including long-term illnesses, healthcare disparities, and risky behaviors like drinking, smoking, and inactivity. During the COVID-19 crisis, health psychologists emerged as vital experts, guiding communities through wellness challenges, illness management, and the psychological impacts of social isolation and lifestyle disruptions.

This program examines critical health challenges affecting modern societies - from demographic shifts in aging populations to strained medical resources, worldwide health crises, and inequities in healthcare access.

You'll investigate behavioral patterns, methods for modifying health habits, brain-behavior relationships, and scientific inquiry techniques. Through psychological frameworks and hands-on approaches, you'll develop strategies to enhance individual wellbeing, disease management, and healthcare delivery systems.

Course topics examine risk factors for conditions such as cardiovascular disease and COVID-19, plus how geographic location influences health prospects.

Potential applications include promoting youth fitness initiatives, supporting stroke rehabilitation, or improving medication adherence among diabetes patients.

The curriculum covers research methodology and assessment techniques, culminating in a practical dissertation project. A 70-hour professional placement allows you to implement health psychology principles while gaining valuable career experience.
