Philosophy influences how we perceive ourselves, our connections with others, and our interaction with the natural world. In today's world, contemplating these relationships has become increasingly vital.
Building upon diverse philosophical traditions from both Anglo-American and continental European thought, our MA Philosophy program invites you to explore fundamental concepts that guide human action and lie at the heart of debates about our existence and nature. You'll develop the ability to analyze critically the complex challenges emerging in politics, science, and the arts due to rapid social, technological, and environmental transformations.
Guided by a tight-knit team of internationally recognized scholars specializing in various philosophical fields, you'll engage directly with groundbreaking ideas from history's most influential thinkers, spanning ancient times to the present day. You'll study foundational Western philosophical texts alongside contemporary works, all bearing significant relevance to modern life and practices.
The program examines demanding philosophical writings across multiple disciplines, including philosophy of science and biology, metaphysics, critical social theory, ethics, aesthetics, and art philosophy. Upon completion, you'll possess the knowledge, analytical skills, intellectual confidence, and tools to undertake your own compelling research initiatives.
With strong connections to other university departments, you'll enjoy unique opportunities to cultivate your philosophical work within a truly interdisciplinary setting. You'll have the chance to develop an extended research project on a subject of your choosing, supported by expert mentorship from our philosophy faculty.
