Our MA in Applied Criminology provides practical, real-world expertise, enabling you to explore criminology in action within both justice systems and applied research settings.
Our faculty combines former justice professionals with leading researchers specializing in areas like youth justice, substance abuse, and criminal justice policy. Their expertise and professional networks allow us to deliver a dynamic, practice-oriented curriculum featuring studies in criminal justice policy, practical applications, and theoretical frameworks, plus optional placements with relevant organizations. The program also includes research methodology training and opportunities for independent research projects.
Designed for both current professionals and aspiring practitioners in criminal justice and related fields, as well as those pursuing academic paths, this program welcomes students regardless of prior criminology background.

Qualification Requirements

You will normally have a 2:2 (or higher) UK undergraduate honours degree (or international equivalent), ideally in criminology or a related field, however this subject preference is not essential. A postgraduate diploma, or a professional qualification recognised as equivalent to an honours degree is also acceptable. It is recognised that non-standard applicants may be equipped to successfully complete masters level study and applications will be assessed flexibly, while maintaining the necessary academic standards.
Please be aware the University may not be able to make a decision on your application without the academic transcript for your highest qualification. An interim transcript may be acceptable if the qualification is not yet complete.
There is no deadline for applications to our postgraduate programmes, however we recommend you apply as early as possible to allow for processing of applications and visas.
