Educational psychology integrates diverse psychological theories and practical experiences to explore how children grow and acquire knowledge. It considers both the broader social and cultural environments of children's education as well as their personal development. At Manchester Met, we collaborate with essential partners in schools, services, and communities throughout Greater Manchester and further afield to establish a dynamic learning environment. This program connects psychological concepts and studies to real-world educational challenges. Our curriculum focuses on priorities aligned with our partners and policymakers: preparing children for school, fostering inclusive practices, and promoting health and wellbeing. You'll study all fundamental psychology areas outlined by the British Psychological Society, with a focus on educational settings. Over three years, placement opportunities will help you understand various psychological methods for tackling societal issues, while working with actual project data to hone research and evaluation skills alongside faculty. Applying psychology to real situations offers the ideal way to grasp theoretical principles and practical techniques. We'll also examine how wellbeing influences learning, especially how social, emotional, and mental health factors affect a student's capacity to learn. Career opportunities Graduates in educational psychology can pursue diverse careers in education, healthcare, social services, psychology, or research. For those considering teaching, pathways include PGCE Primary or Secondary Psychology programs. Our accreditation enables eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the BPS, a prerequisite for professional psychology training in fields like educational, clinical, counseling, or forensic psychology.
