At Manchester Met, product designers investigate the reasons behind designs, explore methodologies, and challenge possibilities. Our approach is inquisitive and thoughtfully attuned to both human and planetary requirements, crafting inventive design solutions that bridge user experiences with products, systems, and services. As a student in product design, you'll cultivate purposeful creativity while gaining insights into the evolving challenges shaping design within societal and cultural contexts. You'll learn to develop products that improve functionality, interactions, and connections with people and environments.

Throughout the program, you'll acquire vital abilities in creative techniques, research, design thinking, prototyping, and strategic planning—using design expertise to identify and solve product-related challenges. You'll explore how to create designs that blend conventional and modern production techniques, adding value through material selection, manufacturing processes, and technological integration. This course empowers you to deliver original, well-crafted design outcomes while building the artistic and career-ready skills needed for long-term success in product design.

Manchester Met's Product Design program continues the legacy of our former BA Three Dimensional Design course, which has nurtured distinguished alumni such as designer-architect Thomas Heatherwick, jewelry artist Ruth Tomlinson, and ceramicist Joe Hartley—all recognized for their impactful work.
