The Combined Honours program allows you to pursue two degree-level subjects simultaneously: English: As a foundational humanities field, English examines how written language shapes and reflects human experience. This discipline focuses on literary works and their linguistic foundations, covering diverse eras and genres while incorporating analytical approaches from history, sociology, and political science.
English studies cultivate valuable critical analysis and communication abilities that employers highly seek in humanities graduates. At our Manchester campus, the English department collaborates with the prestigious Manchester Writing School, home to acclaimed authors and critics, including Creative Director and Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy DBE. These studies equip students with transferable analytical and expressive skills applicable to numerous professional fields. Linguistics: For those fascinated by human communication and its societal impact, linguistics explores the profound connection between language and identity. The curriculum examines both theoretical frameworks and practical applications across educational, social, and professional settings.
With over three decades of expertise in language education, our faculty includes nationally and internationally recognized specialists. Our extensive network of local and global partnerships enriches both academic study and career prospects. A Foundation Year option is available for this program.
